Alves, Aniz and Bento were aware of the pills' ingredients, and were selling them under the guise of diet pills, said Jusseaume.

"Based on the investigation and interviews conducted at the station after their arrest, they were aware the ingredients in the capsules they were selling were illegal," the detective said.

Jusseaume said the trio was surprised by police appearing at their home around 3 p.m. Friday with a search warrant.

"I don't think they had any idea they were being investigated," Jusseaume said.

A neighbor, who declined to give her name, said she was not surprised by the arrests. In the past she had seen suitcases being carried to and from the house, and had wondered why the residents received so many package deliveries, even on Sundays.
