Beware Weight Loss Scams

Canandaigua, N.Y.) -- Many people put “lose weight" at the top of their list of New Year resolutions. While that's a commendable goal, the Better Business Bureau says consumers must be careful about the weight-loss program they choose.

The BBB has received complaints from across the nation on weight loss programs involving fake clinical trials, weight loss tea, hypnosis, and even fat dissolving injections.

Jeremy Biernat, fitness consultant for Tall Trainer in Canandaigua, said quick-fix solutions may end up costing a lot more than a few pounds.

"I could take a bunch of grass, pack it into a pill, and I could sell it tomorrow, and say it will help you lose tons and tons of weight. I could get your money and if I close down business real fast and high tail it out of here, it would be tough for you to get your money ever again," he said.
