It is like a doctor giving an overweight patient some diet pills while doing nothing about the underlying cause of the patient's weight gain. If we as a community are concerned about the level of armed robberies, and let's remember that one armed robbery is one too many, then judges, prosecutors, police and legislators need to address the underlying cause of why they occur, rather than simply jerking their collective knee in a response that is meaningless. So why do people commit armed robberies and why, if we are to believe the media, are offenders becoming more brazen in the execution of the crime? Both parts of that question can be answered with one word: drugs.
